sensible government

  • As Mayor, it is my priority that I treat every single one of your tax dollars like it matters. Because it does. Every penny paid in taxes, is one you could of spent on housing, food, etc.

It is vital that as your Mayor, I don’t make fiscal decisions on my own accord, but on what is best for the community as a whole, as well as the tax-payers.

It is one of my number one goals to ensure that we can keep taxes low, and ensure Fitchburg is an affordable place to live, no matter what stage of life you are in.

  • It would be disingenuous for me to claim I have the answers to everything. That’s why it is important to make all decisions based on data, facts and neighboring comparables.

Decisions that are made with measurable and well thought out ideas, ensure for the best possible outcome.

  • Sensible government is open, understandable, and approachable. That means clear communication, accessible financials, as well as making it easy for residents to know what’s happening at City Hall—and why.

It also means being honest about challenges, sharing information early, and creating multiple ways for people to engage. Trust grows when people feel informed and heard.

  • A sensible city government focuses on efficiency - streamlining processes, reducing unnecessary bureaucracy, and making city services easier to navigate. Whether someone is starting a business, pulling a permit, or reporting a concern, the process should be clear and respectful of people’s time.

Efficiency isn’t about cutting corners - it’s about modern systems, clear expectations, and accountability so residents get timely, reliable service.

  • Sensible government plans for the future with intention. That means smart growth that balances development with infrastructure, public safety, environmental responsibility, and quality of life.

It also means protecting what makes Fitchburg special while ensuring the city remains a place where families can thrive, businesses can succeed, and future generations are set up for success - not scrambling to fix short-sighted decisions.

safe neighborhoods

  • Communities are safer when people know their neighbors, feel connected, and look out for one another. Creating opportunities for connection - through events, shared spaces, and inclusive community programming - helps build trust and belonging across neighborhoods.

  • Safe neighborhoods require well-funded, well-trained police and fire departments. Sensible funding ensures first responders have modern equipment, adequate staffing, and the training needed to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.

Responsible funding also means planning ahead—so departments aren’t forced to make reactive cuts or operate understaffed as the city grows. Investing in public safety protects response times, supports firefighter and officer wellbeing, and ensures Fitchburg can meet both everyday needs and major emergencies.

  • Clear, timely communication helps residents understand what’s happening in their neighborhood and how to respond when issues arise. Whether it’s construction impacts, weather events, or safety updates, people deserve information that is easy to find and easy to understand.

Good communication builds confidence and reduces uncertainty..

  • Keeping neighborhoods safe means using data to understand trends, identify problems, and allocate resources efficiently. Sensible public safety isn’t about doing more - it’s about doing what works.

By analyzing calls for service, utilizing available data resources, and neighborhood concerns, the city can focus efforts where they’re needed most and adjust strategies as conditions change.

strong infrastructure

  • Core services, such as roads, water, utilities, public facilities, and everyday city operations - are the foundation of a functioning community. When these systems are ignored or addressed only after problems arise, costs increase, disruptions grow, and residents feel the impact.

As Mayor I will prioritizes planning, preventative maintenance, and responsible investment so core services remain reliable, resilient, and ready for the future - without needing to scramble to catch up.

  • Major infrastructure projects should be clearly planned, openly communicated, and responsibly funded from the start. Transparency means residents understand the true cost of projects, the timeline, and the trade-offs involved - not learning about shortfalls or overruns after decisions are already made.

If a project lacks sufficient funding or faces challenges - sensible leadership pauses, reassesses, and brings the community into the conversation. Activating community input ensures priorities are clear and solutions are collaborative, rather than forcing projects forward at the expense of fiscal responsibility.

As mayor, my commitment is simple: plan carefully, stay within budget, and be accountable to the people of Fitchburg. Strong infrastructure requires discipline, transparency, and leadership that respects both community trust and taxpayer dollars.

  • Strong transportation systems support drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users alike. Well-designed roads, sidewalks, bike paths, and crossings improve safety and accessibility for residents of all ages and abilities.

When people can move through the city safely and comfortably, quality of life improves.

  • As Fitchburg grows, infrastructure must grow with it. Thoughtful planning ensures roads, utilities, and public services are ready before new development creates strain.

This approach helps prevent congestion, service delays, and unexpected costs while supporting sustainable, well-managed growth.

sustainable growth

  • Affordable housing isn’t just a talking point - it requires thoughtful, coordinated action at the local level. Simply calling housing “affordable” doesn’t make it so, especially when municipal policies quietly add significant costs behind the scenes.

In Fitchburg, development has increased across both multi-family housing and single-family neighborhoods. At the same time, municipal fees and requirements tied to new construction have grown substantially. Permit fees, impact fees, parkland dedications, delays, and regulatory complexity can account for a large portion of the final cost of a home.

When these costs pile up, they don’t disappear—they’re passed directly on to residents.

Creating more affordable housing means taking a holistic approach. It requires reviewing fees, streamlining processes, and asking whether regulations are truly serving the community—or simply making housing harder to attain.

Real affordability comes from smart planning, transparency, and leadership willing to address the full picture.

  • Sustainable growth prioritizes land use decisions that make sense for the community - balancing residential, commercial/industrial, and green spaces. Thoughtful development supports walkability, preserves natural areas, and creates neighborhoods that are livable and connected.

Smart land use helps avoid sprawl, reduces long-term infrastructure costs, and strengthens neighborhood character.

My priority as Mayor is to ensure we continue to make long-term forward focused plans to ensure we are growing in all of the right ways, not just growing for the sake of growth.

  • A strong, balanced city depends on more than residential growth alone. Expanding Fitchburg’s business and industrial base is essential to creating jobs, stabilizing the tax levy, and investing in the services residents rely on every day.

When a city grows its commercial and industrial footprint, it brings good-paying jobs closer to home and broadens the tax base, helping lower the tax burden on homeowners. A healthy mix of businesses allows Fitchburg to fund core services, infrastructure, and public safety without relying solely on residential taxes to carry the load.

Business growth also strengthens community involvement. Local employers often become partners in youth programs, workforce development, events, and neighborhood initiatives. When businesses are invested in the community, they contribute not just financially, but socially—supporting a more connected and resilient city.

Sustainable business and industrial growth requires intentional planning, predictable processes, and collaboration. By welcoming the right businesses and supporting long-term investment, Fitchburg can grow responsibly while protecting residents, strengthening the local economy, and building a community that works for everyone.

  • Environmental responsibility is about making thoughtful decisions today that protect the health, safety, and quality of life of our community tomorrow. It means caring for the natural resources that make Fitchburg a great place to live, while recognizing the importance of growth, infrastructure, and economic vitality.

Responsible environmental leadership focuses on planning ahead. This includes protecting water quality, managing stormwater effectively, preserving green spaces, and ensuring development is designed with long-term environmental impacts in mind. When these considerations are addressed early, communities avoid costly fixes, environmental damage, and unintended consequences down the road.

Environmental responsibility also means building and maintaining infrastructure that works with the environment rather than against it.

Just as important, environmental stewardship should be practical and transparent. Policies should be clear, predictable, and balanced so residents, builders, and businesses understand expectations without unnecessary complexity or delay. Thoughtful environmental planning supports both conservation and responsible development.

By taking a common-sense approach to environmental responsibility, Fitchburg can grow in a way that respects our natural surroundings, protects future generations, and ensures the city remains healthy, resilient, and livable for years to come.
